Vicenza is a cosy and pleasant medium sized city in the north of Italy. It is situated 60 Km from Venice, and has good air and rail links. It is an arts and science centre, which combines tradition with a modern approach. It has a strong cultural heritage. Here we have a branch of the University of Padua, which is very ancient since it was founded in 1222. Padua is the birthplace of the great architect Andrea Palladio (1508-1580), who worked in Vicenza, too. Vicenza is a wonderful tourist centre, with many monuments, churches and museums. In 1994 Unesco included Vicenza, with its historical centre and sixteen Palladian villas, in the humanity’s World Heritage. An age-old tradition in goldsmithery makes Vicenza a world point reference in this field. Further, it has a famous gastronomic tradition, and its best known local products are wines (Prosecco, Cabernet, etc.) and grappa. The climate is fine, with a daytime temperature in September of about 20°C.
